Alonzo was born in Islip, NY, the 2nd child born to Walter Smith and Caroline Hallett. He married Hannah Muncy, the daughter of William Muncy and Marietta Treadwell Fleet, on 13 Dec 1870. Alonzo was employed as a ship’s carpenter. He appears in the 1850-1880 censuses in Islip; he has not been found in the 1900 census; he appears in Brooklyn, NY in 1910, where he worked in construction. He died on 8 January 1919 at the age of 72 in Cypress Hills (close to Brooklyn) and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Bayshore, NY.
