Esther was born in 1780 in Embden, Somerset, Maine, the daughter of Abraham Moor and Esther Walker. Her father was 31 and her mother was 26.

When Esther was 19, she married James Savage, age 24, in Norridgewock, Somerset, Maine, where her parents had their home. Their daughter, Esther W. Savage, was born in New Portland, Somerset, Maine about 1813.
