Joshua was born on 14 May 1743 in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, to John Post, 42, and Lydia Bushnell, 30.

His sister was Lydia Post.

When John was 11, his father died on 21 May 1754 in Westbrook, Connecticut, at the age of 53.

At the age of 20, Joshua married Anna Jones in Connecticut on 11 August 1763. They had 10 children:

  3. Ashbel, born 27 September 1768
  4. Joshua, born 29 November 1771
  5. Zina, bp 29 May 1774
  6. Anne, bp 13 October 1776
  7. Linda, bp 19 September 1779
  8. Diana, bp 14 October 1881
  9. Henry, bp 2 May 1884
  10. Isaiah, born 29 December 1888

Joshua served as a corporal in the Revolutionary War at Crown Point.

When he was 26, his mother died on 10 July 1769, in Old Saybrook at the age of 57.

Joshua died at the age of 82, on June 10, 1825, in Westbrook. He was buried there in the Old Burying Ground. Click here for his record on findagrave.com.
